Myanmar mixed martial arts star Aung La Nsang has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The middleweight and light heavyweight champion of ONE Championship posted yesterday on Facebook a photo of himself in a face mask, as well as photographs of a positive reading of the virus from a Covid-19 test he took on Monday.
“I had a slight fever, congestion, body ache and fatigue on the first two days,” he wrote. “Besides that I am blessed that my whole family is doing well. We are really in this together and we will get over this.”
The Kachin-born fighter lives with his two young children and wife in Florida; he said they would all quarantine for the next 14 days. He trains at the renowned gym Hard Knocks 365 with other elite athletes from MMA promotions the UFC and Bellator.
“The Burmese Python” is one of the few champions to secure and then defend two titles while holding each simultaneously. He last fought in October 2019, when he defeated American-born Filipino Brandon Vera to retain ONE’s light heavyweight belt. He had been expected to compete on ONE’s Infinity Series 1 card in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 10, an event that was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
