A Myanmar shadow dance group gave a poignant performance that had audience members in tears on American’s Got Talent: The Champions.
With the use of neon lights, shadows and dance, Yangon-based collective Junior Creative told the story of a family who flee conflict; the parents are killed and the son is forcibly recruited, leading to a powerful ending.
The performance—a tribute to child victims of war—brought the audience and a couple of judges on their feet for a standing ovation.
Despite drawing praise from all four judges, the 15-member crew was not one of the four acts to advance to the semi-finals of the show, which was filmed in California in October 2019 and premiered on NBC on January 6.
Junior Creative, winners of Myanmar’s Got Talent 2018, also impressed reigning ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight Champion Aung La N Sang, whose home state of Kachin has been afflicted by conflict for decades.
“War is not the answer that’s for sure,” the martial arts star wrote in a Facebook post. “And congratulations to these Burmese youth for showing their talent in America’s Got Talent 2020. Myanmar does have a lot of amazing talents.”
