Video: French singer pays homage to Yangon in new synth track

An international trio have paid homage to Yangon in a new synth pop single.

French singer-songwriter Elodie Sobczak, whose stage name is Wild Ellie, released City Lights with the help of Myanmar producer Zin Lynn Myint, who is better known as Zing, and Filipino guitarist Jim Torres Abril.

“I wrote this song two years ago with my former bandmates as a hymn to youth and friendship beyond borders, a song for the great people I have met during my incredible time in Myanmar,” she said. “The combination of Jim’s otherworldly guitar and Zing’s synths brought to life the world, the feelings I am singing about in this song.”

The song blends indie pop and synthwave influences to create what the musicians describe as “the first international retrowave collaboration in the Myanmar music scene.”

Zing said the first time he heard the demo, he felt transported to “a late night stroll around downtown Yangon under neon lights. I wanted the public to experience that feeling through the track I produced.”

The video shows Yangon at night and is directed by Htoo Tay Zar from 25 Degrees Studio, while the single is available on Joox in Myanmar and all major streaming platforms globally. Check it out below.
