Life must get pretty dull during a three-week quarantine, but seven men likely regret spicing things up with a game of cards at a site in Bago Region.
The men—who police said were quarantined after recently returning from abroad—were arrested in Phyu township on June 7 for gambling, reported Daily Eleven.
After their quarantine is over, the men face up to six months in prison and a 50,000-kyat fine under section 15(a) of the 2018 Gambling Law.
Stuck behind bars in a dirty jail is unlikely to help them dodge Covid-19.
All residents of the township, the men were caught gambling during a card game when the township deputy administrator and officials were inspecting the site in the compound of the No. 1 Basic Education High School in Phyu town. The authorities seized 224,500 kyats (US$160) in cash and playing cards.
Better things have happened in Myanmar quarantine, such as this physically distanced wedding.
