Less than 24 hours before, a nationalist mob had stormed through Yangon’s South Dagon township, bursting into Muslims’ homes and forcing them to stop their Ramadan prayers.

But last night saw what one social media user described as “the real face of Buddhism” when respected monk U Seindita visited the community.

Whereas the nationalists brought weapons as they shouted about defending Buddhism, U Seindita brought flowers, handing them out as a sign of peace and encouragement.

He told the worshippers that kindness and compassion were a part of all religions, and asked for their patience at a difficult time, reported Myanmar Now.

U Seindita, founder of the Asia Light Foundation, is celebrated for his interfaith efforts. His actions drew praise on Facebook, although these were somewhat countered by the usual wave of anti-Muslim posts.
