Two brothers who are policemen in Ayeyarwady region have been arrested for protesting the Myanmar military coup, according to their relatives.
Police Lance Corporal Taryar Lin and Police Constable Thurein Lin were arrested in Kyangin town on February 3 and are in custody at Kyangin Myoma police station, said their father, Thant Sin.
The brothers uploaded an image of them pointing at a sign that says “Do not want military dictatorship” that was displayed outside their house, said their relatives.
Thant Sin told The Standard Time Daily he resigned as administrator of the Talai Kwin village tract in Kyangin Township at a meeting of the township General Administration Department on February 2 after saying that he did not want to “work under the military boot, and I do not want a military dictator”.
He said he was not permitted to see his sons at the police station after they were arrested.
In a post on their Facebook page, the brothers said they joined the Myanmar Police Force to work for the people, not for a dictator, and they will protect the people from being oppressed by a dictator.
Police Lance Corporal Taryar Lin posted that he would “follow them with a smile on my face when they come to arrest me. I will not kneel down to the military dictator. I will never be afraid of them. Our generation is brave”.
