A Myanmar military plane skidded off the runaway at Yangon International Airport yesterday morning, causing delays to some flights for about four hours.
The Y-8 transport plane was carrying six crew members at about 10.30am when engine failure caused it to slide for about 2,300 feet, according to a statement from the Tatmadaw chief’s office.
No one was injured, and there was no damage to the plane, although the runaway was temporary closed, according to the statement.
About 10 inbound flights from Southeast Asia and China were suspended until 2pm, reported news outlet The Irrawaddy, in the fourth accident at Myanmar’s busiest airport in recent months.
The aircraft was taking off for a training flight to Nyaungdon township in the Ayeyarwady delta.
The same kind of Chinese-made military aircraft was involved in one of the country’s worst aviation disasters in June, 2017 when it crashed into the Andaman Sea, killing 122 people on board.
Investigators concluded that bad weather brought it down, reported state media.
