A well-known Myanmar actor, his wife, and his father-in-law are being charged for a horrific acid attack and assault on a teenage domestic maid.
Actor Min Yar Zar, Phu Ngone Pwint, who is also known as Zu Zu, and Maung Maung Aye are facing four charges over the attack, Yangon region MP Myint Lwin told news outlet Daily Eleven.
The girl’s mother, who is from Ayeyarwady region, reported the three suspects to a police station in Yangon’s North Okkalapa township on April 7 after visiting her daughter and seeing she had been assaulted.
Before the visit, the mother heard an audio clip uploaded by Phu Ngone Pwint on the actor’s Facebook page accusing him of adultery, according to police.
The daughter, who is reportedly 15 years old, then told her mother that the couple threw acid on her genitals and Maung Maung Aye hit her on the head with a hammer, said police.
She was admitted to North Okkalapa hospital.
Police opened cases against the three suspects for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, and abetment, under sections 324, 325, 354 and 114, respectively, of the Penal Code.
