Knob N’ Knockers Bar & Grill: Not as dodgy as it sounds

Rating:

When you come across the name ‘Knob N’ Knockers Bar & Grill,’ I suspect your thoughts are running along the lines of ‘this place sounds a bit dodgy.’

But fear not, this is a wholesome establishment serving German and Italian dishes in Bahan Township’s Pearl Condo complex.

As you enter from the front side, you will see a spacious western style bar and restaurant in a low-light setting where a long row of tables stretch from one end of the room to the other. On the opposite side you will find spacious booths suited for larger groups of people.

Knob N’ Knockers is slightly on the expensive end of the price scale with the traditional German fare, which dominates the menu. Most meals range from 10,000 to 20,000 kyats while the larger shared platters are priced between 25,000 and 50,000 kyats.

The menu has a large variety of dishes to choose from such as schnitzels, sausages, salads, pastas, pizzas (even cone pizzas), steaks, and pork knuckles. You will even find the German classic apple strudel (3,500 kyats) on the dessert menu.

Their sausage platter (25,000 kyats) and grilled New Zealand lamb (15,500 kyats) are definitely worth a try. The sausages come with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and dipping sauces.

But if I would highly recommend anything it would be the Knockers Schweinshaxe (35,000 kyats). This very crispy and juicy pork knuckle, which is large enough to share with one or two others, is perfectly cooked and comes with a very tasty gravy sauce.

Knob N’ Knockers have a large drinks menu with a variety of cocktails, liquors, and shooters on offer (6,000 – 9,000 kyats per drink). But I suggest you give their cocktails a miss—they are either too sweet or filled with the wrong ingredients. Half of my Long Island Ice Tea was filled with Pepsi…

Standard draft and bottled beer prices range from 2,800 kyats to 7,500 kyats, the most expensive being Burbrit’s German Weizen beer, which goes great with the food. A daily happy hour is 2-8pm.

Oh, and if you feel you have overeaten, ask for a shot of Jagermeister to help the digestion. They serve it in a bottle but they may let you just have a shot of it.
