Dear reader,

Myanmar Mix has learned a hard lesson about the sometimes fickle nature of government announcements and we sincerely apologize if it has affected you.

On December 26 we ran a story on the government lifting stay-at-home orders for most of Yangon and several townships across the country, as announced by the Ministry of Health and Sports.

This was correct at the time, however state media issued today the following correction in the bottom right corner of the ninth page in the Global New Light of Myanmar, just underneath Yangon’s weather forecast, which it claims, was partly cloudy. We have made it slightly larger below.

A correction from the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar printed on December 28.

This means stay-at-home orders were lifted in Kungyangon, Twante and Seikkyi Kanaungto townships starting from December 27 except for various wards and villages in these three townships that are listed here.

We have removed our original story to avoid any more confusion.

The full list of seven orders related to stay-at-home orders on December 26 across Mandalay, Bago, and Ayeyarwady regions as well as Mon and Kachin states can be read here.

The orders limit trips outside to one person per household for shopping or two for medical treatment and most employees were told to work from home. Strong enforcement of the restrictions has been absent in Yangon, and the lifting of them is unlikely to have a visible impact on the streets, which are as busy as ever.
