A fashion designer is suing her husband—a footballer for Myanmar’s national team—for allegedly having an affair, reported 7Day News.

Khin Nyein Chan told the outlet yesterday a case has been opened against Maung Maung Lwin at Hlaing township court under section 417 of the Penal Code, which punishes “cheating” with a possible fine and up to a year in prison.

The designer, who is pregnant, also filed for divorce and a property settlement at Yangon Region Western District Court on May 23, according to the newspaper.

The 24-year-old Yangon United midfielder married Khin Nyein Chan in February and moved out of their home the next month after they argued, she said.

Khin Nyein Chan said her husband had neglected her since late March and “yelled at me when I tried to meet him at a football field, so I went to live at my mother’s home, but he did not try to contact me. That’s why I took action against him.”

Maung Maung Lwin is due to appear at Hlaing township court on June 8 and Western District Court on June 12.

The same law was used last December by a former girlfriend of Myanmar actor Moe Aung Yin after she claimed he broke a promise to marry her.
