Our latest apartment of the month underwent a painstaking nine-month renovation. Plywood room partitions were ripped up, the termite-infested mezzanine was removed and a semi-transparent shelter was installed on the tiled rooftop terrace, meaning you can enjoy the space come rain or shine.
The sleek and simply designed two-bedroom apartment sits in the heart of downtown Yangon—but is set high enough to escape the city’s frantic pace, with imported double glazed windows to block noise and heat.
Natural light pours into each room, with the second-floor bedroom and en suite bathroom leading to a vast 80 square-metre rooftop that boasts stunning views of the city.
Creative tenants can project their designs across a large, free space on the second floor.
A spiral staircase leads down to the exposed brickwork and wooden aesthetic of the minimalist front room, an adjoining dining area, and then the kitchen.
Durable pyinkado wood serves as flooring for the mezzanine, while the bedrooms have strand woven bamboo parquet.
Extensive insulation material in the new roof ensures the top bedroom will be protected from Yangon’s seasons. Around the apartment is mostly custom-made furniture made from reclaimed teak.
