In the latest show of defiance against the junta, activists are calling for a “green day strike” on April 11 in which people can participate by posting images of indoor plants or leaves featuring anti-coup messages.
The protest will honour the more than 600 people killed by the regime since the February 1 coup. It follows other creative demonstrations that have limited the risk of death or arrest at the hands of security forces, among them an Easter egg protest and the spraying of red paint on roads to remind the military of the blood on its hands.
An organizer of the green day strike said it aimed to provide inspiration that Myanmar can overcome a bad fate and awake with a “new force.” People participating in the strike are asked to include the hashtags #GreenDayStrike #Apr11Coup and #WhatsHappeninginMyanmar alongside their photos or re-shared posts on social media.
