Air KBZ resumed domestic flights on a limited schedule in Myanmar yesterday while requiring passengers to masks.

“Air KBZ operates essential domestic services for travellers who need to travel for unavoidable reasons,” the carrier announced in a statement on its Facebook page.

“We, however, suggest all travellers to plan their travels wisely and to delay non-essential travel.”

Passengers arriving to Lashio, Myitkyina, Myeik, Sittwe, Dawei, and Khamti will be subject to a 21-day quarantine at a government facility followed by a seven-day quarantine at home in accordance with orders from the regional governments, said the announcement.

Meanwhile, Mann Yadanarpon Airlines, Air Thanlwin, Golden Myanmar Airlines, and Myanmar National Airlines will resume flying on May 1.

Myanmar has recorded 111 Covid-19 cases along with five deaths and seven recoveries. Curfews have been imposed across the country, including a 10pm-4am curfew in Yangon.

The order prompted Myanmar Airways International to change the departure time of its relief flights from Yangon to Seoul on April 23 and April 30 to 7.55am, with the check-in counter open from 4.55am.

A Moscow-bound relief flight was due to make a stopover in Yangon from Kathmandu today in order to pick up more than 50 Russian tourists who appealed to their embassy for help.

Yangon International Airport, though, is not set to reopen until April 30—two weeks later than originally planned—to curb the spread of the virus.
